About
Well, I suppose the time has come for me to explain just what me and this page are all about. I have a hard time with this. I hate for cancer to be the first thing I mention, but in the context of this page it hardly seems inappropriate. Forget it I’m fighting the inevitable.
I am Jersey bred but not Jersey born. I am bored of my iTunes. I wish it was a lending library of sorts, but I suppose that would just bring us full circle. I love Turkey, and by that I mean the country not the food. Not that I mind the food, in fact Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I believe Ben Folds saved my life back in high school, but I love a good rap anthem to get the blood flowing. I hated college, but will I support the Scarlet Knights until they lose again (clearly not happening any time soon).
I went to the bar one night with a friend of mine, left after 2 sips because I had a serious belly ache, and found out the next day I would be going in for emergency surgery to remove an ovarian cyst that was compared to sporting equipment in size. The surgery was not related to cancer, but I truly believe I never would have found out I had cervical cancer if I had not gotten sick that night. It was from then on (cue the drama) that my life changed. I mean that in a truly wonderful way. I am doing this! This is great! I am about as excited about this project as any one person can be about anything.
I was able to start CancerCake through the help of a friend. But the need for CancerCake was there long before. I wanted to start a site that reached out to the young adults living with cancer in any form or stage. I wanted ladies and guys to be able to feel sexy and confident. Because men need to support the women they love. Because none of us are flying solo through our experience.
I think, if you will all stick with me through the beginning, I will be able to make something of this. I’m really excited.
Oh and if you ask me why CancerCake? I don’t know! Honestly, I thought the two words just went well together. If that doesn’t satisfy you then “I hate cake, and I hate cancer”. It’s true I’m really not a desert person. I have birthday fruit salad.
